Greggs opens first airport site in London as it targets transport hubs

North East food-on-the-go success story Greggs has opened its first airport site in London as it unveiled its new shop in Gatwick Airport’s South Terminal.

The Newcastle business said the opening – its eighth airport location in the UK – marks a major milestone in its growth strategy, as it looks to expand beyond the high street to key transport hubs across the UK.

The 1,600 sqft shop, based in the south arrivals area, will be open 24 hours and sell the full menu, ranging from salads, breakfast deals, freshly-made sandwiches, bakes and sweet treats to hot food options such as potato wedges and chicken goujons.

The opening builds on its recent openings in other key transport hubs across the UK, including Glasgow International Airport, Shepherds Bush Tube Station and Canary Wharf Station in London, putting it on track towards its goal of opening 150 net new shops in 2023.

The company said that as it continues to grow, it is keen to ensure its can continue to meet customers’ needs and adapt to their lifestyles, by seeking to open shops to serve travellers and commuters.
