London food market handing out free food to ‘vulnerable’ on Christmas Day

A food market will help those who need it most by handing out bags of food on Christmas Day.

The staff members at Mercato Metropolitano, based in Elephant and Castle, will be spending their Christmas Day making sure that others have food to eat.

Starting at 11am in front of their grocery, the operations and community staff of Metropolitano Mercato will hand out the free Christmas meal bags.

In total there will be 60 bags on first-come-first-served and one bag per family basis.

But Mercato Metropolitano are no strangers to charitable work, in November and December the market provided 4890 free meals in the form of hot takeaway lunches and food bags to the vulnerable members of our community.

Andrea Rasca said: “During our turbulent times, I am in awe of how the MM community has responded to London’s needs with great revelry, passion, and kindness.

“We have provided 3,060 people with COVID-19 emergency food bags, with volunteers delivering 16,000 meals and raising £18,000.

“We have continued to provide 4,869 community meals to 1,579 people. I look forward to participating in and seeing how MM continues to evolve to meet the needs of our lovely community.”
