From the urban cool of Shoreditch and Bethnal Green to the high-rise luxury flats in Canary Wharf, neighbourhoods in East London are particularly known to have their own distinctive characters.
But if you go a bit south of the Whitechapel area, just before the Thames, lies a neighbourhood that’s got the best of both of both worlds.

This neighbourhood is also reportedly home one of London’s oldest pubs – The Prospect of Whitby.
No wonder it has attracted its share of celebrities, like Graham Norton and Helen Mirren.
Cher also lived there in the 90s, so you know this neighbourhood be something special.
This neighbourhood is, of course, Wapping.
It is often overlooked in place of the glossy buildings of Canary Wharf to the west, but Wapping is full of history.
In the past, it was an important port where many ships would come in to on the Thames from the English Channel.
Oh, and did we also mention the abundance of canals in the area as well?
That is why this area has its own pick of historic waterside pubs, such as a The Prospect Of Whitby and The Captain Kidd.
There is also a gorgeous park with riverside views of the Thames – the King Edward Memorial Park.
So if you ever fancy a quiet stroll with a river breeze and gorgeous buildings (and perhaps even spot a celebrity or two) you should definitely check out Wapping.
