Martin Lewis shares hack to save money on your heating – and it only costs £1

You might be surprised to know that you can actually save money on your heating bill with simple items you would find in the average kitchen.

And no it’s not the kettle to make a hot water bottle, although that is also a very good idea.

In one of Martin Lewis’ latest money saving hacks he has been doing a little bit of investigating himself and has been left shocked at the simple way you can save money on your heating bill.

According to the the MoneySavingExpert website for this corker of a saver all you need is a roll of clingfilm.

The cheap solution is often banded around as an energy saver but not many people believe it can actually be true.

The idea of the hack is that use can use clingfilm on your windows to create an easy alternative to double glazing.

According to Martin Lewis, the Energy Saving Trust says the idea is that putting a “sheet on your window traps a small layer of air” which can help stop “heat escaping”.

On the website it says: “The Energy Saving Trust says you can use any material for the second layer of glazing, as long as it’s transparent and airtight.

“However, while clingfilm works in theory, in practice you’ll probably want to use specialist secondary glazing as it’ll last longer.

“If you have double glazing, adding a third layer could make you a little warmer, but the benefit will be much less than when dealing with a single-glazed window.”

Martin also reminds people that any draughty windows will also need to be dealt with or you will only get “half the benefit” of the secondary glazing.
