Nudist beach near London seeks warden to ‘engage with visitors in the dunes’

A nudist beach near London is seeking a warden in order to provide “checks and engagement” with visitors.

Holkham Hall, an 18th century estate still lived in by the Earl of Leicester and his family, wants the seasonal warden to carry out regular inspections of the beach and basic repairs to the infrastructure.

On particularly hot days, they will also have to engage with Holkham Bay visitors in the nearby dunes that’s a popular spot for naturists.

The nudist section of the beach is continuous with the beach of Wells-next-the-Sea on Norfolk’s north coast and is open for public use.

The full job description reads: “We are looking for a highly motivated and passionate individual to assist us with visitor management, and engagement during our spring and summer seasons.

“Alongside our wardens and learning and engagement team, your role would be to help us communicate our conservation messages to our visitors across a range of nationally important habitats.”

This seasonal role will run from April 1 to August 31, 2021, 36 hours a week from Friday to Monday.

Nudism was briefly banned in 2013 by Holkham Estate, which owns the beach, following reports of people having sex in public. It was reinstated after non-profit British Naturism threatened legal action, claiming that implementing the ban, which could affect up to 1,000 people per day, was like “using a sledgehammer to crack a nut”.

You can see the area in the popular Shakespeare in Love, starring Joseph Fiennes and Gwyneth Paltrow.
