The latest Royal Mail and Post Office Christmas jobs available in London

Royal Mail will now be picking up parcels and mail from your doorstep, it has been announced – great news for many people who can’t get out to the Post Office.

Its Parcel Collect service, which has been trialled in parts of the west of England, will be available every day except Sunday, and there will be 72p charge per parcel, plus postage costs.

This move will no doubt create new jobs, brilliant for those who have just been made redundant after the coronavirus pandemic.

It’ll also be perfect for people who are just looking to make a little cash at the most expensive time of the year.

Royal Mail offer a whole host of flexible Christmas jobs to help them sort the influx of extra post they get at this time of year.

On the page about temporary Christmas jobs it states that Royal Mail will need ‘a few thousand extra helping hands’, so if there’s not a job in your area of London currently, it’s likely more will become available over the upcoming months.

Christmas Casual, Croydon Mail Centre

If you’re looking for a casual Sunday job this one’s for you.

This temporary Christmas role will see you working the 6am to 2pm shift at the Croydon Mail Centre on Beddington Farm Road.

Royal Mail’s ‘wishlist’ states that you’ll need to enjoy working to tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment, and that being proactive and detailed focused is key.

It also says that you’ll need to be able to push trolleys (up to 250kgs) and lift and move mail bags up to 11kg.

No previous experience is needed.

Pay: £8.72 to £9.40 p/h

Christmas Casual, West Thurrock Sorting Centre

A good option for those living in Barking and Dagenham, this role offers a really good pay rate.

You can pick from a range of shifts – Earlies, Lates, Nights and Weekends – so finding something for you should be easy.

The job description says you’ll be helping unload mail and parcels from our vans, moving them around our warehouses and then sorting them so they arrive at their destination safely.

Pay: £10.50 to £12.48 p/h

Postperson with Driving, West London Delivery Centre

While not strictly a Christmas role, this job is part time and a temporary contract so might work well for people looking for longer term employment.

Based in the West London Delivery Centre in Harlesden, you’ll be working four days a week between 1pm and 7.25pm

The job will involve sorting the mail for your route, joining a colleague in the van delivering the post for between four to six hours.

You’ll need a full UK manual driving licence with no more than six penalty points, and the contract will end on June 27, 2021.

Pay: £12.40 p/h for staff over 18, £9.65 for 17-year-olds. Pay also increases every six months.
