Who are my London local election candidates and where can I vote on May 6?

As the London Mayoral and local borough elections approach, many of us will be wondering: ‘Who are my election candidates and where is my nearest polling station?’

Voters will be going to polling stations on May 6 after local elections were postponed from last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

People have been asked to bring their own pens and pencils to help combat the spread of Covid-19 this year when they go to the polling station.

At MyLondon, we have a handy tool anyone can use to find out where to go on the election day.

We are working in partnership with InYourArea and Democracy Club who provide candidate information and polling station information for all elections.

Two widgets have been made which will list your candidates and polling stations near you when you type in your postcode.

The second widget shows the local polling station information (if already known) and also postal voting information.

The polling stations will be updated as councils update them – we expect there may be some changes this year due to Covid.

Both of these widgets take you through to IYA where you can explore more local elections information. More information will be added there as we get closer to the local elections.

There are three different ‘contests’ that make up GLA elections – and three different ballot papers for voters. These are for:

  • London Mayor – there are 20 candidates standing in this election vying to take the role from current mayor Sadiq Khan
  • the 14 Members of the London Assembly that represent London’s 14 Constituencies
  • the 11 Assembly Members that represent the whole of London (London-wide Members)

We will also be electing candidates for local by-elections in many London boroughs. Here the councils are elected fully every four years. The last full election was in 2018, but in between these four years, candidate stand down and seats become vacant so elections are held to fill these borough seats.
